In the heat of the battle

ChrisFeb 11 2022

I was running as fast as I could, holding a lei of white flowers in my hand. My destination was clear. Out of nowhere, someone crossed my path, blocking my way. What I saw terrified me. First, I thought it was a person, but as I got closer, I realized it was a demon. The darkness in his eyes was trying to pierce me with fear. In a supernatural way, I was suddenly able to pass him and keep running. When I arrived, my middle son was there, and I placed the lei around his neck.

When I woke up from that dream, the Holy Spirit said to me,

Going to Charis Bible College will lead you into the plan I have for you. Your obedience will result in a spiritual legacy for your children.

Finding, Following, Fulfilling God's will

Years later, I understood that the dream had been a picture of the spiritual battles I was about to face. In our journey to find, follow, and fulfil God’s will, we will encounter the Enemy. He will attack our faith and our commitment. Our spiritual maturity will be put to the test. Andrew says,

In order to see God’s will fulfilled in your life, you need a goal, and you need to move in that direction. But I can guarantee you that all hell is going to come against you, trying to stop you from obtaining God’s best. And you will need to stand and fight.

When Andrew was preparing to go to Vietnam, the chaplain gave a word to him and the other young men he was with. He told them,

Going to Vietnam is a fire, and it will melt you. But you get to pick what mould you fit into.

The same is true for all of us.

If you find yourself in the midst of your spiritual Vietnam, Andrew’s How to Find, Follow, and Fulfill God’s Will teaching will empower you to win the battle.

Becoming a Living Sacrifice

Andrew says that the first step in this journey is to become a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1-2). It’s a total commitment—spirit, soul, and body. When you surrender your will to God, you connect with His saving power just like you did when you were born again. This commitment is an ongoing process. If you haven’t dedicated all of yourself to the Lord, it needs to be a priority. It’s the first step. You won’t get to the greater things that God has for you without it.

Maybe you have made this commitment, but the Enemy is wearing you down. Renew your commitment in your heart. God is faithful, and He will encourage you and give you strength (Ps. 138:3). Don’t give up just because you are facing difficulties.

Renewing Your Mind

The second step is the renewing of your mind. In the heat of the battle, you have the power to choose the outcome. The attacks will try to burn away your vision and hope. But you can overcome by meditating on the Word until you manifest in your physical senses what is the good, the acceptable, and the perfect will of God (Rom. 12:2).

In following God’s will for my life, I have faced huge obstacles. For the first time in my life, I was experiencing financial difficulties. During my second year at Charis, I had terrible insomnia. At times, I felt like a zombie while listening to Andrew in class. But God protected me, and I’m seeing more and more victory. These principles have helped me overcome discouragement and hopelessness. God has put a new song of deliverance in my heart, and He will do the same for you.
